Why are my rice crispy treats hard?
Melting the ingredients at too high of a heat causes rice crispy treats to be hard. Be sure to melt over medium heat or medium high heat. Another reason is if they are placed in the fridge to set. Instead, let them set out on the counter at room temperature.
Why are my rice krispies treats soggy?
Usually Rice Krispies treats become soggy, especially on the bottom, then there is too much butter. Too much butter can cause rice crispy treats to be soggy and wet.
Can I make rice krispies treats the day before?
Yep! I think they are best the day of, but you can definitely make them the night before you are ready to enjoy them. When you are all done baking, simply cover and leave on the counter and room temperature.
How long does it take for rice crispy treats to harden?
It takes Rice Krispies treats about 1 hour to harden. Leave uncovered on the counter.
WHAT INGREDIENTS DO I NEED TO MAKE THE BEST RICE KRISPIES TREATS RECIPE:
This easy recipe only has 4 simple ingredients! Just four and a couple of hours is all you need before you can indulge in this perfect Rice Krispie treats recipe.
- unsalted butter
- Mini Marshmallows
- Rice Krispies Cereal
- Vanilla extract
- chocolate chips- I used milk chocolate chips for this recipe, but you are welcome to use semi-sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips!
HOW TO MAKE RICE KRISPIES TREATS:
- Line a square baking pan with parchment paper. If your parchment paper is not staying in the pan well, lightly spray the bottom of the pan with nonstick cooking spray and then place your parchment paper on the bottom. It will stick nicely.
- Melt butter in a large pot on the stove over medium or medium high heat
- Once there is melted butter, turn heat down to medium or medium low and add the marshmallows.
- Using a wooden spoon, continually stir until the marshmallows are melted.
- Add the vanilla and stir it in.
- Remove the marshmallows from the stove and add the Rice Krispies Treat cereal.
- Stir until the Rice Krispies are fully coated in melted marshmallows.
- Gently fold in chocolate chips.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared pan.
- Spread out the mixture evenly with parchment paper, wax paper or the back of a greased measuring cup.
- Press mixture into the square baking dish. Be careful not to press too firm and compact too much or the rice Krispy treats will be too hard.
- Allow the rice Krispies to firm up at room temperature for about an hour
NOTE: I have found that this is the perfect amount of marshmallow for the recipe. If you add too much marshmallow, it will sink to the bottom of the pan and create this thick layer of marshmallow under the rice crispy bar.
Enjoy these gooey cereal treats!
HOW TO STORE RICE CRISPY TREATS
Store rice crispy treats in an airtight container or cover with plastic wrap and leave on the counter at room temperature for up to 1 week.
