Butter: You will need 6 TBS of salted butter for this Rice Krispies recipe. Be careful not to add too much butter or the marshmallow mixture will become greasy.
Mini Marshmallows: Make sure to use fresh marshmallows for this rice Krispy treats recipe. This will ensure that your Rice Krispies bars are fresh and tasteful. This recipe calls for 16 oz of mini marshmallows. This is about a bag and 3/4 of a second bag if using the 10 oz bag.
Rice Krispie Cereal: This recipe calls for 7 cups of Rice Krispies Treats cereal. If you cannot find Rice Krispies cereal, you can substitute for lucky charms, cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, or any one of your favorite sweet cereals.
Vanilla extract: You will need just a hint of vanilla in this recipe.
How to make Rice Krispies Treats:
This is an easy recipes, but it packs a powerful punch and is a fan favorite!
First, line a square pan with parchment paper. Set that aside.
Second, melt butter in a large pot over medium high heat until the butter is just about melted.
Next, bring the temperature down to medium-low heat and add in all 16 oz of marshmallows. Stir the marshmallows continually until they are just about melted. Some recipes have you setting aside one cup of mini marshmallows until the end to leave a few chunky marshmallows in there. So if you prefer doing that, then you can.
NOTE: I have found that this is the perfect amount of marshmallow for the recipe. If you add too much marshmallow, it will sink to the bottom of the pan and create this thick layer of marshmallow under the rice crispy bar.
Then add in the vanilla extract into the marshmallow and butter mixture and stir that in.
Remove the marshmallow mixture from the heat and pour in 7 cups rice krispies. Stir with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula until the Rice Krispies cereal is completely covered in the melted marshmallows.
Lastly, pour the mixture into your prepared baking pan and spread the mixture out evenly. Use the back of your wooden spoon or spatula to lightly press the mixture into the pan. If the marshmallow mixture is sticking to the back of your spoon, use a greased spatula or grease the bottom of a measuring cup. The marshmallows will no longer stick.
Leave uncovered or cover with plastic wrap and let sit on the counter for at least 1 hour before cutting and enjoying.
